The Youth summit in India was an experience that’s very hard to put into words. All I can say is that it was amazing, all of it. We got to see a country so different from our own, and learn about different cultures and lifestyles. We got to meet new people from different parts of the world. And we focused on an important issue, climate change.
We had a tight schedule, because there was so much to do. And we really got to experience a LOT of things, which I’m really happy for. Riding in the back of a truck, visiting a temple… We had a lot of unforgettable experiences. Maybe the most amazing experience was the village visit. You just can’t explain what it was like. The people there live in very different conditions than we do, but they were very friendly and hospitable: in Finland no-one would invite a stranger from the street in for tea.

I enjoyed the group work, it felt like we were actually doing something to help the environment. Which we probably were, since we (or actually the Indians in my group) told a lot of people about solar cookers and climate change, and many of them were interested and probably became more aware of environmental issues. Some of them even said that they would talk to others in their village and spread awareness. So that felt really good. The Indians who were interviewing did an amazing job. :)
I also liked the nature trails, where we saw beautiful nature and interesting things, and which sometimes stretched from half an hour to three hours. :D Also the night at St.Peter’s was great, I liked the dancing and the food a lot.
The only bad thing I have to say is that we didn’t have much free time. The first night was great, we got to talk to people and just hang around, but after that we barely had time for a shower.
Other than that, the YS was great and I’d do it again if I had the chance.
