YOUTH SUMMIT REPORT 2008:-

We left school with great enthusiasm and excitement in the morning and after reaching the camp site, that was Spandan, we were a bit shy to interact with the boys and girls from Goa. But as soon we got the spirit we all interacted with them and became good friends. Mainly the first day was complete rest as the Finnish and the Dutch participants had not arrived and we were waiting patiently for them. These participants arrived in the early evening and we greeted them well and also started interacting with them. It was really fun and we now had a lot of company to enjoy this wonderful camp.

The next day we had to wake up early (5:15-8:30) as we had the AOL class that is the “Art of Living” where we were taught Yoga and different values of life. After this long activity we had a nature trial where we walked through the forest and learnt and saw many new things such as new wildlife as butterflies and different plants and trees. It was a long and a tiring walk but was an experience to us all.

We even had the treasure hunt and we had to spot out the treasure. It was a very amazing game and it was liked by all. After a sumptuous lunch we were divided into our working groups and had to decide a topic on any environmental issues and present it on the last day of the camp. We all worked very had as we had no time but had to present this presentation and after all of this we had to prepare a declaration. We interacted with the participants while eating our dinner; it was fun and a very pleasant day as we had a few presentations by the participants of various countries followed by a night trial.

We again had to wake up early in the morning as we had to go for the AOL class. It was not liked by every participant as they all had to get up early without having the feeling of the fresh dew of slumber. Then we had a nature trial again but on another route and saw many new exotic plants and gained a lot of information about forest life. We even had our time to work in groups on our respective topics and then in the evening we visited a village named Bhose. There we saw many new crops and the participants from foreign countries were very excited as they had never seen this type of life. There Johaan sang for them all and the village students performed wonderful songs and poetries and they even played the drum for us. We were really impressed by them. This day went of so fast that we even did not come to know about it.

On the Thursday we had an early rising as for the AOL class being held. It was fun and along with fun we even had an experience. After this we had our breakfast and started with the working groups till lunch. After lunch we went for a trek to the Bhilar plateau. We walked atleast 10 Km from the forest and reached there in a tired state but as we saw the beauty of the setting sun and the fauna, all our tiredness went away and we all were refreshed again. We walked back after sitting there and admiring God’s beauty or creation through the darkness. I really love or enjoyed the long walk as it was through the forest, we saw many new fauna as the carvy plant that only blooms once in seven years. We were very lucky to see this plant. This day was a tiring day but an exciting and adventurous day too.

The day Friday was awaited by each and every one as it was a social program in St. Peter’s school. In the morning we had our AOL class and after that we had our breakfast and were getting ready for our group work. In the evening The participants of the Youth Summit were taken to the Panchgani market to shop and after that we all arrived to the school to play a few matches either football or basketball. Everyone liked it and enjoyed the matches. We freshened up and were ready for the socials. There we all enjoyed a lot. It was the best evening we had at the youth summit. There was dancing, games and many other activities. After all this enjoyment we had a fantastic dinner and everyone just enjoyed the dinner from the core of their heart. It was a wonderful evening that we will never forget.

The day began with the same daily schedule. We had the AOL and then we did a few activities such as farming and after that we all worked very seriously as we had to present our presentation today and even prepare a declaration. In the evening we started our presentation group wise. Few groups did their presentation on the renewable resources, Hydroponics, waste management etc which was done by my group. Johaan even gave a solo presentation on the pH of soil and it was liked by everyone. After all these presentations the seven group leaders were called out and were told to frame the declaration which would represent us all to the whole world. We started framing the declaration and after 3 hours we got a complete declaration that lasted unto 12:30 at late night. The declaration consist of everyone’s ideas as we discussed and then framed the declaration. It is a very heart touching declaration and a very effective one which would hit anyone’s mind and heart while reading it.

The first day was full of smiles but the last day was very sad as in these seven days we became so close that when everyone was leaving slowly slowly it felt like every thing is over and we will never meet again. But as it’s said that every good thing has an end, we all cried when we left and we hoped to meet each other again may be this moment, this month, this year or may be the next but we will surely meet. No matter the youth summit has come to an end but the spirit, the courage and the will that it has inculcated in our souls and body will always remain with us and it will never come to an end. So we the youth of today and tomorrow will bring our bodies into line and respect mother earth and spread its message as far as possible to every heart and soul present on this wonderful place of life and death.
