Youth Summit Report
On 13th October 2008, after a long preparation Mrs. Fernandes, five
boys of St. Peter’s School and myself started for the Spandan
Eco-Park to participate in the Youth Summit 2008. When we reached at
Spandan we met the Chowgule College (Goa) participants. We interacted
with them and had lunch together. It was wonderful to meet the participants
from Finland and Holland in the evening when they arrived.
Every morning we had AOL course for teachers and YES course for the
students. These courses refreshed our minds to think positively and
de- stressed us. The nature trail was informative and enjoyable where
we observed different kinds of plants, insects and animals etc.
Students were divided into working groups. They decided on topics related
to the environmental issues for their project work. The students were
excited and worked hard to prepare a good and informative project. It
was a practical experience for students to find a solution for different
environmental problems.
The students and teachers enjoyed the shopping in Panchgani market.
Everyone had a nice time in St. Peter’s School playing basketball,
football and enjoyed the music, dance and dinner.
The village visit gave an insight to all the participants about the
rural life of India. The participants showcased their creativity by
colouring and painting the caps and t-shirts. The students presented
their project work beautifully through powerpoint presentations and
charts. The students understood the essence of environment and how to
save it.
I would like to thank Mr. D’Monte and Mr. Peter to give me such
an opportunity to attend and learn new things in the Youth Summit. It
was a wonderful experience to interact and mingle with all the teachers
from India, Finland and Holland. I would also like to thank Abel Foundation
for their resources.
Ms. Reetuparna Ganguly.
